Sam played for the Clyde for years. Wonderful player. Played 100% every game. He was also manager of Petershill Juniors/ Lived in Ruglen for years. Sam was a Maths teacher which is a bit unusual for a footballer. Terrific player to have in your team. A winner.

Sammy was a bad loser; never gave up; great player, hard but fair. Gave a lot back to the game - went on to coach school children for 15 years and managed Petershill and Lesmahagow who were both successful when he was in charge.

Sammy was a tough player: elbows like battering rams. It did not matter wwho he was playing aganist he would knock them about. Also a good football brain and not all brawn.
