Although Stevie played in the team above me it was always handy to take your boots over the pitches at a midweek game. Now and then they would be a man short and you would be asked to fill in. I was lucky enough to play twice in cup ties. These guys were great to play alongside Stevie was a terrific player in a terrific team

He could jump to the height of the roof to header a ball. He had springs in his heels and was quick. He was like a deer.

I used to get fed up with we Danny De Vito's stories aboot how great it was when he played for the Dallies,it might have helped if I had heard of them apparently they had never been out the old central "c" division of the juniors.Used to be great in the vogue when he worked on a Saturday night,he would go for a break to Gormans or the Sportsman come back blootered and try to throw everybody oot at Ten o'clock.

Hope was better at fitba than a barman, walked into vogue and asked him for a baileys n ice and a white wine and soda, he stuck them all in the same glass.

If you to the Gallery page of this website you will see a photo taken in April 1970 when Fernhill played the team from Germany. I think Stevie is in the photo when Fernhill are attacking the goal. ( There are 2 photos of this game )

Slight correction due here - Stevie played great in a great Fernhill team of the 1970s - and he never even paid me to say that

Stevie always gave 100% effort. Great guy to have in your team. His greatest game was one summers night in the early 1970's on the big ash park at Fernhill. There was a a big crowd around the park to watch Fernhill play a team from Cologne. Stevie was brilliant that night and scored a great goal after running the full length of the pitch. Smashing guy and talented fitba player.
