In 1966 Billy was selected to play for the Scottish Youth team to play Wales in Wrexham. Billy played for Drumchapel Amateurs at that time.

Billy was a top player. Every top player needs two things: Touch (so that the ball does not bounce away from yo uand does what you wanat ), and Vision ( see what other players cant ). Terrific player. One of the top 5 to have come from the ancient burgh. Vote now to get him in the team.

In January 1977 Killie nearly beat Celtic at Parkhead. - Celtic eventually won 3-1 but not before Billy split he Celtic defence with a good pass and setup up a goal for Ian Fallis to give Killie the lead. The team taht day was Stewart; Maxwell, Clarke, Welsh, Robertson; Murdoch, McCulloch, McDicken; Provan, Fallis, Smith (Sheed): So near and ye so far.

Billy scored the day Kilmarnock beat our rivals Ayr United 6-1 in 1976 at Rugby Park. Kilmarnock were a good team.Stewart, McLean, Robertson, Murdoch, Clarke, Welch, Provan, McDicken, Fallis Sheed (Maxwell) & Smith - Dave Provan went onto to play for Celtic, and Gordon Smith went to Rangers. Happy Days.

Signed for Celtic in 1967 when his brother Bobby was at Celtic. Left Celtic and went to Kilmarnock. Some locals say he was the best player of the Murdoch brothers ( Bobby, Matt, James, and Billy ). Not sure how true this is . Does anyone in Ruglen know ?
