Big Danny came from Fernhill. He played in goal for many teams including Petershill junior. A fine big keeper.View Archive Comments »

Brave as lion. Fearless. I think he once broke his arm during a game. Also a nice guy - always a smile on his coupon.

A Prince of Goalkeepers. Keeps goal with his brain and not just his hands. Fernhills' greatest, but not so sure if he is Ruthergelns greatest. Always made brillian saves in the pre match warm up.

Did he ever save a shot with his nose ? - The perfect score for Danny was 0-0. It meant he had a good game and done his job. Some forwards used to say that scoring a goal was " better than sex ". Not sure what a Goalie says when it is no goals scored. Any suggestions ?

Does Danny still wear that that Bright Red turtle neck pure wool Goalkeepers jersey that was designed in the 1930's? When it rained it was so heavy he couldn't come out for the high balls.

Is it true Danny was once giving himself a pre match massage with winter green oil just before going out onto the pitch, and then rubbed his eyes by mistake and was unable to see properly for the first 10 mins of the game while the trainer flushed out his eyes with cold water from the bacteria free sponge bag ?

The goalie is always the most important man in the team. Danny always took his football seriously and saved his teams many points in a season. A good old fashioned honest pro. Good candidate to be in Rutherglens Greatest team.

Danny would spend ALL his pocket money on buying Queen albums. The sound of Frddie Mercury music was all around the Fernhill. It was not Top of the Pops or World Aid that made Freddie , but Danny. P.S. He was a top goalkeeper and as brave as a Lion. I look foward to him being nominated and winning the best keep ever from utherglen and on the bell in the Vogue. Vote Danny.

Danny could down a pint in 3.3 seconds. He was second best in Ruglent to Pat Sharpe. He might no be the best goalkeeper but what a swallorer.

How much would he be worth in the transfer market today? Would he be the most expensive Ruglonian ? Would it be higher that the 9.5 million pounds paid by Moscow for McGeady or the 850, 000 paid by Barcelona for Archibald. If you were a manager making a bid, how much would you be prepared to pay for him ?

Lev Yashin from Russia was voted as being the best goalkeepr of the 20th century. It is said that he saved 150 penalties during his long career. What was Danny's record like - did he save many ?

A few years ago Pele named 125 of the greatest living players. I was surprised the Bign Mans name was not mentioned. But he is a certainty to be the Rutherglen Greatest Players First team goalie.

Danny should be in the Rutherglens Greatest team: great guy who loves his football. Danny would never blow his own trumpet, but when in full flow after a few beers he sounds like one of those South African vuvuzelas. ( plastic metre long, brightly coloured thing that sounds like an elephant ).

Some of his shouts were legendary,DANNYS AWAY was a favourite along with WIDE,then you turn round and the balls in the centre of the goals and Dannys pointing the finger at the back Four.

Everybody has a Danny Houston story. I remember he nearly lost an eye while playing for Dalmarnock. The incident involved his own player, Big Wylie, he went to clear the ball as Danny dived and caught Danny on the cheek. Give him his due he thought he could play on. Danny is now coaching the youth keeper at Queen's Park. On a lighter note Danny was good to the birds when he played, they used to nest in that big Afro he had.........lol.

Danny had to have a brain scan after being hit on the head with a rock during a League Cup match up near Blackhill. Luckily there was no damage done and the Doctor siad he was lucky that he was wearing his Petr Cech balacava.

In 1999/2000 season Danny damaged his knee ligaments bending down to catch a ten bob bit that someone had dropped at the Vogue bar. It never hit the carpet. The Big Man had reflexes of a cat. And he was a right good keeper. Maybe the most under rated from Ruglen.

I heard that once upon a time he suffered an unusual injury when he dislocated his jaw while shouting at his defenders to " Get Out ".

Danny a decent keeper but dropped and parried a few which were dispatched into the net by David LLOYD. ONLY KIDDN DANNY.
