Dick McLaughlin

Tough tackling player with a great will to win.  Type of player you wanted in your team. Would kick the head of his granny to win a game of football. Not slow at telling his team mates if they were not giving 100% effort.

Looks a bit like the leather clad guy from Village People. But in a good way.

Dick would never set out to hurt anyone deliberately unless it was important -- like a league game

I remember watching Dick play in a cup game at Fernhill parks against another Rutherglen team. Cannot rememeber their name but it was a local derby. Anyways Dick was playing keepy uppy with their winger. Th poor guy needed shin guards on the front and back of his legs. But Dick was a good defeneder: always wanted to win.

Did Dick come from Springhall ? I remember playing against him. He was a tough bugger. Could tackle like Bobo Balde. Did he have a brother who was a better player than him? Cannae remember his name.

Dick could header a ball further than he could kick it. Never wore rubbers sole boots. Always made sure his studs were sharpened before a game. You could hear Dick's voice all around Fernhill when he shouted for the defence to " GET OUT ". Great guy to have in the team.
