Once hailed as "The New Gazza ". Lost his way somewhere but a good candidate for Rutherglens Greatest. Would definetly be in Rutherglens loudest team: that is a compliment. Type of player you need in a team and in the dressing room.

Some player was McColl - still often shows a bit of flair in training. Myth gone about Rutherglen that he only got invited down to Darlington in error because he opened his brothers post by mistake and it was him they wanted. Still a flagbearer for amatuer football in the town and often participates in auld crock games if there is a piss up after them.

How much would he be worth in the transfer market today? Would he be the most expensive Ruglonian ? Would it be higher that the 9.5 million pounds paid by Moscow for McGeady or the 850, 000 paid by Barcelona for Archibald. If you were a manager making a bid, how much would you be prepared to pay for him ?

Hello, My name is Susy. I live in Hong Kong. I love football from the UK and watch games most weekends on a Saturday or Sunday night. My favourite team is Man U. I love to wear their bright red jersey most weekends. I came across this website when surfing the internet. I seen your photograph and read your profile. You appear to have been a good footballer and I would like if you can help me understand more about football in the United Kingdom. (a). I collect auto graphs from players around the world: can you send me your signature please ? . (b) Can you explain the offside rule to me ? . c) Why do footballers seem to be so angry ? I am going down my local bar tomorrow night to watch a game: if you are in town please let me know and I would love to talk to you about football. Susy.

Paul McColl was a crabbit: He was a good player but never fulfilled his potential. Like many other guys from the Burgh.

Note from the site Admin team: Thank You for the information about Paul McLaughlin, Bob Davidson, Steven Gayne, James Reilly, Nicky MacDonald. It is brilliant feedback. It looks like they should be on the Players List. It is gems of knowledge like this that will help the development of this site. Rutherglen has had tons of wonderful football players throughout the generations and it is good to hear their stories. If you have any more names to consider please let us know. Many thanks. Assistance required: I have been advised about 2 players from Rutherglen who should be on the players list: Paul Mclaughlin, who captained his country in a UEFA tournament against World greats such as Fernando Torres: ( b).Bob Davidson who played in the First team at Ibrox a few years ago. - If anyone can provide some background information on these players ( positions, who they played for, did they come from Rutherglen, any other facts about their football career. )- If anyone out there can help please let us know. Site admin.

John I can confirm I have never been capped by the Scottish amateur although was selected in a squad but never travelled due to injury.I have been selected many for the Scottish amateur league select. My time at Darlington was spent playing at youth and reserve level before being chased without a First team start.

Great big player, played beside him for years. He also liked a moan, at his own players but that's how much he wanted to win. He was also found of a red card or 2.
