Played with Clyde for a number of years. Silky mid field player, think he started with Fernhill Athletic. Would like to know more info on him as he was a very good player.View Archive Comments »

Played his first professional game for the Bully Wee at Hampden Park on New Years Day 1973. Scored a goal from 25 yards with one of his first kicks of the ball. He was still at school then, but playing in the Clyde first team. He was playing because Dominic Sullivan was injured.

Bob played many times as a sweeper in his youth at Fernhill. Could read a game and see moves really early before the opposition forwards could. Played many times in representative games ( Glasgow Select/Amateurs, Lanarkshire schools ,etc.). He also played midfield and was capped a number of times for Scotland as a midfielder. ( Schoolboys, Amateurs). As a professional with Clyde he played up front and scored a number of goals. Just a natural footballer. Good guy to have in your team: he would create chances or score for the team. Used to take a lot of stick from opposition players, but never retaliated. I think he only ever got booked once

Mr. H could play some. One of the few players to have been playing professional football ( with the Bully Wee) while still at school. He was always playing above his own age level (when just 14 was playing in under 16 or 17 team, etc ). Played for the Scotland school boys, amateurs etc. He played for Fernhill and once upon a time he missed a training session with Scotland to play for Fernhill in the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup. The Scottish Schools FA suspeneded himn for the next game against Wales. Fernhill also got beat, but it showed a lot of loyalty to his local club.

I'll give you more the best footballer I have played with, different class.lauded by Harry Haddock then with Clyde to be the biggest Scottish footballer to be transferred out of Scotland.Something happened to change that but as well as being a wonderful footballer he is a wonderful person.

saw bobby as a young player, thought he was going to be the next bobby murdoch, and go all the way to the very top in football.i cant give him a bigger complement than comparing him to the main man.
